Russian and Soviet painter, member of the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions.
He took lessons at the private art studio of A. V. Makovsky, then entered the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts. He studied with the head of the genre workshop of the school, professor V. E. Makovsky, father A. V. Makovsky. He was considered one of the most talented students.
In 1912 he graduated from the school. For the exhibited at the Competition Exhibition of the Imperial Academy of Arts picture «Swimmers», Vitaly Gavrilovich Tikhov was awarded the title of artist with the right to retiree abroad.
The Bretons are from the Brittany region of northwestern France. They inherited their language and culture from the British Isles, which in Antiquity and the early Middle Ages were called Britons. Brittany and its inhabitants are considered one of the six Celtic peoples.
The women in the painting are dressed in traditional Breton costumes: various starched white hats and collars worn over long simple dark dresses.
