Albert Benoit has been to Finland many times. Since 1886, he has regularly accompanied the family of Alexander III in the Schär, and the landscapes of Suomi occupy a significant place in the artistic heritage of the famous watercolourist.
Works dedicated to the vicinity of the Saimaa Canal and Lake Saimaa have been repeatedly exhibited at exhibitions of the Imperial Society of Russian Watercolors. The artist’s favourite sunset motif became his own "visiting card"
