The artist was born in Vitebsk and studied at the Theological Seminary. In St Petersburg he entered the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he was a pupil of Ilya Repin. He taught. In 1916 he was awarded the title of Academician.
In the post-revolutionary period he was a member of the Academy of Arts, taught at VKhUTEMAS - VKhUTEIN, participated in major Leningrad and All-Union exhibitions.
He died in besieged Leningrad in 1942.
Bobrovsky's works are in the Corporate Collection of Belgazprombank, the Russian Museum, the Vologda and Novosibirsk Regional Picture Galleries, the Astrakhan Picture Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, and private collections in Russia and abroad.
