The portrait of his wife was performed after moving to Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). The portrait was painted on Sunday, in a cold morning. You can see a part of the frosty window. Still life was improvised - an album on art and a dry bouquet in a milk bottle. The artist simply painted his wife, her open face, a direct look of the dark eyes.
In his companion’s life, the master found an image that corresponds to his vision of beauty, femininity, decency. There was always a sense of unity and spiritual closeness between them.
