Emil Kower was the son of the sculptor Karl Kower (1828-1885) and his wife Elisabeth Magdalene Schmidt. His grandfather, Emil Cower Senior (1800-1867), was the ancestor of the dynasty.
Coure is an extensive family of artists-sculptors. Especially famous in Germany in the 19th and 20th centuries. The family was founded in the 6th generation by Emil Cower Sr (1800-1867), a student of Christian Daniel Rauh.
