Braz Osip (Joseph) Emmanuilovich (1873 – 1936)
Portrait of a young man with a cigar in his hand
1902
151 x 80 cm
Oil on canvas
Art historian Vladimir Pogodin has suggested that the portrait depicts Ferdinand Ruszczyc (1870-1936), a Belarusian and Polish painter, graphic artist and stenographer. He was a pupil of the famous A.I. Kuindzhi. The artist remained friends with him since his student days and painted his portraits several times.
