The portrait comes from a family of descendants of the famous noble family of Khanykov. According to the provenance, the portrait depicts Ekaterina Nikolaevna Khanykova (1815-1844), daughter of Nikolai Vasilyevich Khanykov, an official of the State Assignment Bank, and Cleopatra Mikhailovna Obreskova.
She married her third cousin, Privy Councillor Vasily Yakovlevich Khanykov (1792-1850).
