Yegor Koshelev is an attentive observer of modern culture, its critic and ironic commentator. Thanks to his academic education at the Stroganov Academy, he is brilliant at artistic skill. However, in Koshelev’s work, the realistic school of Soviet painting became just a base into which various styles are integrated and transformed. Koshelev uses art history as a baggage from which to extract various histories - from mannerism to futurism and neograffiti. It is as if Jacopo Pontormo, Pablo Picasso or Humberto Boccioni suddenly came to the 21st century and became co-authors of the modern artist. Using different artistic languages, he does not rewrite the history of art, but adds them to his work as colors to the palette. Recently, the artist is engaged in rethinking modernism and its formal methods. His works are in the collection of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
