The artist, at his father's wish, attended the Theological Seminary, preparing to become a priest, but he was destined for a different fate.
Having studied for a short period at the Imperial Academy of Arts, the painter worked a lot on sketches, honing and perfecting his skills. In 1882 he received the title of academician.
Undeniable talent and outstanding artistic ability promised him a glorious future, even Aivazovsky himself considered him his rival, but his premature death from typhoid fever at the age of 35 did not let these expectations come true.
