Professor Fritz Boormann was born on 11 August 1892 in Wiedenbrück. He studied in the studio of Heinrich Repke from 1906 to 1910. This was followed by years of study with the painter-historian Hüttgens in Angermund near Düsseldorf. F. Boormann learnt from him the technique of glass painting. He took part in the First World War, served as a soldier and was seriously wounded.
After, since 1919 F. Boorman attended the art academy in Düsseldorf. Then he briefly moved to the Munich Academy and studied there mainly under Professor Knirr. He then returned to Düsseldorf and continued his studies here with Professor Deusser.
At this time (1924) he made his first study trip to Italy, followed by a second in 1925. In addition to Italy, Burman also travelled to Dalmatia, France, Holland, Belgium and Lithuania.

In the early 1920s, F. Boorman's painting style underwent a decisive change. The terrible war experiences had a subsequent impact on him and forced him to sharply express and draw attention to all the disasters and suffering he saw everywhere after the war. That is why in his paintings he confronted the often completely unprepared viewer with longing, sadness and hopelessness. Everything secondary was discarded, and the artist focused entirely on the most important thing for him in a person - the face and hands.

In 1926, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Art in Königsberg and led a master class there. He worked at the Academy for ten years until he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg in 1936. Ten years of living in East Prussia shaped him and made him admire the stark beauty of the local landscape.

His main motif at that time was the Curonian Spit, which he depicted both with and without people. He spent several months a year among them and therefore had a good understanding of their concerns and needs. His numerous paintings make it clear that the life of these people was very hard and required a constant struggle against the forces of nature. Nevertheless, the people depicted never seem embittered or irascible, but always calm and reserved, sometimes a little melancholy. Despite all the blows of fate that befell them, they remain unconquerable and vividly display their inner strength.
