Vase with floral decor
Around 1900
Porcelain, painting
Height 24,5 cm
Magnificent ornamental vase with soft painting. The body is ovoid in shape with a rounded shoulder and a short cylindrical neck. On the walls are sumptuous bouquets of wild roses, violets, lilies and anemones in a fine polychrome soft painting emphasised by white highlights on a white background, executed by Johann Bergmann (J. Bergmann) (who worked as a factory painter until 1927). On the shoulder and neck around the circumference is a relief gold ornament of stylised tendrils and lattice ligature on an olive green glaze with white veins and a pale yellow and pink background.
An exceptional piece that combines three different decorative techniques in a rare way. The impressionistic effect of the floral painting, accentuated by the pale background, in strong, luminous, finely graded colours harmonises stylistically and in colour with the green artistic glaze and the finely lined framing relief gold ornamentation. These new decorative techniques are the result of scientific research at the Chemical and Technical Research Institute and were used around 1900 in various combinations on many different types of vessels and ornaments. They played a decisive role in the development of the new style in KPM.
